Malt extract is used for the cultivation and maintenance of molds and yeasts. The acidic pH of malt extract agar promotes the optimal growth of molds and yeasts while restricting bacterial growth. It is also an excellent medium for mycelia growth. Directions on how to prepare the agar medium are included.
